It’s a wrap. Black Americans live in the Kill Zone.

I woke up the other morning to news about a “Black Lives Matter” display painted in front of Trump Tower in New York.  Mayor Bill de Blasio photographed with a paint roller dripping with yellow paint. Alongside was Rev. Al Sharpton spokesperson for whatever is bugging Black folks. The Mayor had already begun the process to “defund” the city’s police. However, those acts haven’t gone unnoticed by white supremacists and others who continue to deface similar signs painted on 16th Avenue in Washington, D.C.

 

Disclaimer: “No White people were harmed” in the writing of this article and, some of my best friends and family members are White. The executive director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center Ibram X. Kendi insists, “There’s no such thing as being ‘not racist.’ We are either being racist or antiracist.” In business parlance, you’re either part of the problem or part of the solution. If just one of those other three officers had decided to act, George Floyd would likely be alive today.

 

As a result, no matter what your circumstance, gender, education, economic success, or where you come from, if you’re Black, you are the enemy.  If you are a Black person, it doesn’t matter if you’re unarmed, handcuffed, held down by multiple police officers on the ground, kicked, or killed by a knee on your neck.

 

Unless I become a white woman overnight in a bullet-proof vest with XXX inserts to hold my breast; I’m “flat” out of luck in America. Along with the rest of my Black sistahs people falsely label American Black Women negatively because she “appears” to be invincible.

Nonetheless, she’s hunted, sexually and physically abused, too often raped, a victim of sex trafficking.  Police physically tackle Black women & girls like they do a grown-man on a football field. Why?  Because they don’t see her as a woman. 

 

She Is Not Safe.

 

1.  She could be asleep in her bed.

2. Or playing in the park.

3. Skipping home from the corner grocery store.

4. Asleep in Wendy’s drive-through or  in her dorm room lobby.

5. Jogging on a country road.

6. Bird-watching or selling bottled water in front of her home.

 

Lesson 1: How to Conduct an Ambush in the Black Kill Zone.

So, what’s a “Kill Zone”? It’s an ambush tactic where an approaching enemy is trapped and destroyed. In short, the objective of a “Kill Zone” is to kill or capture all enemies inside the kill zone.

“Yes, Nana, I know,” my grandson said to me in his sweet little boy’s serious voice. Of course, he’d already had that talk with his Dad.  “OK, I said, ” But be aware of your surroundings at all times,” “Yes, Nana,” he replied. Equally important now is the add-on “talk” about reporting any inappropriate touching by adults male or female.

The Death of Innocence.

Of course, all Black girls get the “Talk,” too, with a uniquely tailored rider.  “Sit up straight. Close your legs or cross your ankles. Stop sashaying around here! Fix your posture, and don’t wear revealing clothing.

Don’t talk to strange men, don’t bring any attention to yourself, stop crying, and don’t be a tattletale (a set-up for girls to learn the “abused but don’t tell” lifestyle.)

Black parents have to prepare their daughters for the kill zone, too, along with possible attacks from “bad men” who like to hurt girls, not excluding Black men. And, if her Daddy went missing for whatever reason (divorce, abandonment, prison, etc.), she probably grew up with no male protection at all. Or, at least that was my story.

The “Double-Dutch Kill Zone.

“Go Back! Go Back! Go Back to the Woods!  You haven’t. You haven’t.

You haven’t got the goods.

You haven’t got the rhythm. You haven’t got the jazz.

You haven’t got the life that White Girls have.”

For Survival’s Sake.

Undoubtedly, Black America Women are some of the most self-sufficient women on the planet. Not by choice but, for survival’s sake.  Raised to be independent, self-sufficient, smart, resourceful, don’t ask for stuff, worry about everyone else, yet take time to paint her toenails, get her hair “did” and get a job. Have kids? You had them. Raise them by your damn self.

For instance, my Granddaughter receives assurances that it wouldn’t be her fault if someone beat her or hurt her. “You tell Mommy, Daddy, or your Grandparents if you ever feel unsafe from anyone even if it’s a relative.” “Yes, Nana, I know,” she said with the innocent but cautious eyes of a 9-years old.

Let’s Not Forget the “Four-For-One” Targets in the “Kill Zone.”

I had to rain on my husband’s parade when he came to America from Sudan.  To survive in the U.S., he had to master the “Living Black in America 101″ and toss all his American Dreamland ideas out the window.  Nevertheless, he did pass, and 20 years later, earned his Doctorate. His thesis is titled: “Navigating & Surviving the American Kill Zone when you’re Black, Arab, an Immigrant, and a Muslim.” 

Black & White Together? Don’t Count On It.

😃At 3.8 million square miles, the United States is the world’s third- or fourth-largest country by total area. With a 2019 estimated population of over 328 million.

🤨Amazingly, at 3.8 million square miles of stolen land, the U.S. is the third most populous country in the world with a Constitution that claims we all have equal rights. We all know that a lie.

 

Did a Black President Make it Worse? Yep.

In 2008, Barack Obama became President.  Not ironically,  it was White American’s worse nightmare.  Moreover, the sale of automatic rifles skyrocketed the day he put his big toe on the steps of the White House. Finally, the house built by Black slaves was occupied for eight years by a descendant of Africans. 

To say nothing about the reality that 150 plus years since the end of slavery, we still have to explain racism and “Jim Crow” to white people. We haven’t updated the history books to tell all of us the truth about America. As a result, we were all robbed of our history, and that is the main problem. Will you people just stay down? 

Operation Black Lives Can’t Matter.

High Tech Search & Destroy Tactics in the Black Kill Zone.

No matter what anyone says, people afraid of their extinction will do anything to survive.  And, White America is petrified. I decided to search the internet to find a simple explanation of the kill zone. Subsequently, I found Jason Crawford, who spent 12 years in the U.S. Army, served in Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

He served in several positions in the military, including as he writes, Rifleman, Platoon Sergeant, and as an Observer/Controller. Here’s what this Bronze Star soldier had to say about the “3 Elements” of a Combat Patrol and the kill zone.

1. Assault – There is always an object that identifies the purpose of the mission. The objective is to get rid of the enemy. Anyone who is non-white qualifies as the “enemy.” Young, old, male, female, or child.  As a result, they all run the risk, on any day, of being captured on the battlefield.  If not by a weapon, then by a system of injustice.

2. Support – The element of a patrol provides direct “support in breaching or holding cleared areas.

3. Security – It’s the “thankless task of watching everyone’s back,” he says. Hello, 911. There’s a little black girl with, I believe a stolen white poodle.

Legalized Crack

It’s a known fact that many of our police are fresh out of the military. Soldiers from the Iraq & Afganistan wars come home fired up, angry, restless, and trained to kill first and think later. They ride for days in Humvees and sleep with military-issues rifles in their arms.

In the warzone, everyone knows not to wake a sleeping”Peacekeeper,” without the risk of being shot. These “protectors” are ready for battle in their sleep and unleased on America’s streets.

Also, living in a warzone means addiction to the military-grade crack energy drink “Rip It”! Our potential police soldiers wired on this drink are coming home with post-traumatic stress syndrome and other mental health issues.

Not too mention, when our soldiers come back home, they turn in their military weapons and get to carry a little piss-ass hand revolver.  Who wants a pitiful gun after you’ve blown up villages full of people with rocket launchers. What the hell do we expect?

Combat sleep deprivation.

Service members often turn to energy drinks, a prominent component of combat deployments that has become as paramount to mission success as any piece of protective gear or weaponry.”

In short, the military knows this is an issue, and now they are curtailed. We have to ban police from using this crack energy drink while on patrol. As it is, cops are are already hyped-up, and that always leads to irrational and judgemental behavior.

Equally important is to remember that our police force is worse than any “heat-seeking missile.” Obviously, unlike the homing infrared passive weapon guidance systems, these guys hunt and slaughter whomever they deem to be the enemy.  In the United States, it seems Black people are the number 1 target other people-of-color follow.

Why are our police treating us like the enemy in a war zone?  Furthermore, why are our police involved in police exchange (training) programs in other countries? These guys have a sordid history of brutal violence, exaggerated assault, and wanton abuse and destruction.

Who Are Our The Police?

Our ex-military soldiers are considered a valuable commodity in the war against civilian targets—a few reasons why they are scooped and hired by Police Departments across the country.

It doesn’t take much to see any person of color as the enemy when you’ve spent years fighting and killing people who look like them in wars. For this reason, when they come home, they are considered top-notch already trained in wartime recruits and ready to join the ranks of the police.

If It’s Broke, Then Fix it.

 

Firstly, community-based policing should be a priority. Let’s add services to deal with issues like mental health, homeless communities, and other non-violent crimes.

Why do we need police in military gear to hunt down Black kids “suspected” of crimes? As a result, some states are considering abolishing the police altogether.

Secondly, if we are going to have police, they should live in the neighborhoods they patrol.” Before I moved into my house, an officer lived here.

Everyone in the area knew him, and they felt safer knowing he was there. He also was aware of the issues the community faced.  What I can say is that that man had more security set up in this house than any I’ve ever lived.

Thirdly, cross-training police programs in repressive regimes have to stop. We need to cut police budgets to take care of other needs citizens have to cut down crime.

End Military Tactics in Our Communities. Shhhh….

We aren’t the Taliban!

Joe Biden, make your move.

We have to eliminate all hunt, kill, take, confine, and destroy tactics in our Police forces. Wrongly kill a Black person lose your license to carry says activist Dick Gregory.  In conclusion, we have laws to control leaving dogs in heated cars but have a problem convicting cops when they violate the rights of Black men, women, and children.

And, finally, we need more women and especially more Black women and other Women-of-Color in government and different positions of power in this country. For example, take D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

She has taken on Trump setting him in his place like Black women I know will do when it comes to their stuff. In fact, as a result of activists and Mayor Bowser, by a historic vote, the House approved statehood for the District of Columbia. But, while the:

House passes bill to make DC the 51st state, but GOP opposition means bill unlikely to advance further.

Don’t Mess With A Woman’s House.

In response to the killing of George Floyd and the protests in her city and others across the country, she allowed two blocks of 16th Street, leading to the White House get painted with humongous yellow letters spelling “Black Lives Matter.”D.C. workers painted the words at her request. In an interview on NPR, she stated,

“ Well, I think you know that federal forces had occupied parts of Washington, D.C., including 16th Street and in a brazen kind of show of force in our city by the federal government.

When we were able to reclaim that portion of 16th Street following, you know, an unprecedented, we think, move by the government to squelch a First Amendment protest – and the message, Black Lives Matter, is an affirming one for people who are demanding that we have a more just criminal justice system.

The Road to Change.

A. Establish a national registry of police misconduct.  Police must be held accountable. And, charged when they commit crimes. Additionally, wrong-doing incidents entered into a national database, and every law enforcement must have access to that national registry. Likewise, add Catholic Priests Boy Scout Leaders charged with sexual offenders and men who assault women on that list.

C. Let’s institute the assumption that 911 calls from a white woman claiming a Black person puts her life in danger are suspect before sending armed cotillions of police get dispatched. Solution: Hire more Black Women as 911 supervisors.

D. Black men have too many things on their mind than to worry about putting White women in danger. For all, she knows he’s married to one and has fifty-eleven kids with her.

So, Black People Put on Your Battle Gear.

Once Again!

Perhaps, we need to give every Black person a bullet-proof vest as soon as they start school with an update and upgrade for every year of growth.

If I’m keeping count, my Grandson is on his 15th upgraded vest and my Granddaughter on her “13th”. My son, brother, uncles, and my husband better not lose or gain any weight because they’ve maxed out their upgrades.

Sidebar:

Additionally, equality for women in law enforcement or the military, including gear, is sadly lagging. Right now, these women have to stuff their breasts into bulletproof vests. We’re talking about 20 pounds of steel they have to squeeze.

 

Will Black Lives Ever Matter in the “American Kill Zone?

Nope!

Black lives will never matter under a racist, engrained system.

For example, we already know diversity training won’t do it at least in the Police Force.  After all, the group of Police Officer who participated in the murder of George Floyd was only missing someone Spanish speaking. If Black lives are going to matter on any street in America, we will have to dismantle targeted racism and kill zones” everywhere.  I don’t think this country is capable of it.

My Hope

Finally, I can only pray that my Grandchildren will enjoy some semblance of equality in this country. Before they’re locked up in kill zone concentration camps, i.e., American prisons, killed or denied the opportunity to reach their full potential in a country that doesn’t see them as deserving a prosperous life.

And, if not, my gift to them will be a passport and an open-ended ticket to the least racist country they choose to live in on their 18th Birthday.
