Enough With the Debates!
Other than a few clips on Youtube, I’m not watching.
😡The majority of us don’t have the stomach to watch two grown men go at it once again in this year’s Presidential Debates. Maybe they, like me, checked in for a moment for the first one and then kept on flippin’ our remotes to find something that didn’t wrack our nerves.
🤥I knew it was going to ridiculous. And, as expected, Trumps’ constant interruptions, lies, and personal attacks were applauded by his supporters and frowned upon by those who “wish upon a star” that we don’t have to put up with another four more years of this fool.
😖And, like most Americans, I didn’t watch the Town Halls either. I think we’ve heard enough. I’d made up my mind in 2016 who I was going to vote for in the next election. I was just waiting for my next ballot to come.
Is A Third Debate A Waste of Time?
So, why do we need Presidential debates?
Is it for entertainment’s sake?
The Presidential debate between Biden and Trump did more harm than good. It wasn’t about “the issues.” It had nothing to do with the direction each candidate would take the country. Most people say they would vote for almost anything to get Trump out of the office. Others that they will stick with him even if it meant being flushed down the drain. It’s a divided nation. Very few are undecided. I wonder if this was how it felt decades ago when the Civil War was fought? A country divided. Racism/Slavery. And, who gets who’s land. Sounds like the same issues to me.
And, then the other night we had what is referred to as “Dueling Town Halls”. Trump says the country is on the mend and he will replace the Affordable Care Act with one of his own bigger and better but, not willing to disclose it until after the election. The President has refused to denounce QAnon (the group that says the Democrats are a satanic pedophile group that only Trump can stop) and that White Supremacy is a threat all while calling on the “Proud Boys” to stand down and stand by.
The Structure of a Debate.
Here is what the American Debate League has to say about the purpose. “A debate aims to convince the opposition that you are right. When the two sides agree on the subject or when one side’s arguments are more convincing than the other side, that is when the debate comes to a close.
In a formal debate, a mediator (a person that has not agreed with the Pro or the Con) will decide who the winner should be. In an informal debate, the argument can continue until the time when one side gives up. Reminds me of Saturday morning. Okay, so there are rules that are hard to believe when you checked in on the latest Presidential Debate.
The Fight To Be Champion.
During the debate, Biden reminded me of a tired, irritated parent looking down at her child, who was screaming and hollering and having a major tantrum on the ground. There they stand with a straight face; lips squeezed tight and doing everything they can to keep from snatching that kid bald.
Goddess Save Me.
People are watching, and they don’t want them to call the officials. But, you’ll notice their arms are either folded across their chest. Then on their hips, or dangling down their sides in defeat as they continue to watch the hellraiser wear themselves out patiently.
Then, in a calm, low flat voice, they’ll ask, “Are you done yet?”The kid let out a few more whimpers and then shuts up, feeling stupid, embarrassed, and exhausted. They’ve worn themselves out from all the kicking and screaming. I have seen that scene played out dozens of times. I’ve been in that same scenario with my own kid.
Setting the Rules
In my opinion, they need to enlist parents to moderate these political debates if we need to hold them at all. I don’t care what you say; you can’t reason with an out-of-control toddler until they wear themselves out. Donald Trump fits that description to a tee. Mr. Wallace was not up to the task. They needed a parent, especially a mother there. “Excuse me! She’d say, “I said you each get two uninterrupted minutes to speak. When your two minutes is up, that’s it.” But, then I changed my mind the last time I
Candidates get 2 minutes to answer a question.
Then, “Shut it, Down”!
When their time is up, they are to stand there politely, wait for the other candidate to say their piece, and perhaps get a rebuttal chance. But, nooooo…Trump behaved like a drunk neighborhood bully in a South Boston bar. There is no other way to explain it. He was incoherent, blasting Biden, talking about his family and on and on. Those who run these debates are considering to shut off each mic when their time is up.
The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) – a nonpartisan body that has organized presidential debates since 1988 – and said it would soon announce new measures to help moderators “maintain order” in the remaining two debates. Of course, there is controversy. Trump’s people say it’s changing the rules in the middle of the game.
What’s the reaction?
The “Chaos Factor” Number One.
The BBC reported that Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh described the debate night’s “chaotic scenes as a “free exchange of ideas,” and criticized the plans. “They are only doing this because their guy got pummelled last night,” he said.
“President Trump was the dominant force, and now Joe Biden is trying to work the refs. They shouldn’t be moving the goalposts and changing the rules in the middle of the game.”
The “Chaos Factor” Number Two
The considered solution is not seen as an adequate one because some believe Trump will likely talk loud enough to be heard over Biden’s mic. I say turn both mics off at the same time. What is the damn problem?
The “Chaos Factor” Number Three
That’s what happens on Radio when guests act a damn fool. You already have some music cued up, and when it’s time to end the show. People are still running their faces; you fade up the music, roll the fader down on the quests, shut it down, thank everyone for their time, turn the controls over to the next host, and politically thank the guests for coming.
Neanderthal Behavior
First, if Trump can’t act civilized, then have the moderator and Biden gather up their papers and leave him on the stage by himself shouting and insulting people all by his lonesome. Then the tech crew can wind up their cables and go home.
Second, once Donald finishes with his tantrum, his Secret Service can escort him off the stage into the black Presidentential limo and take his silly ass home. Turn off the lights and go home.
What to do about the Supporters?
Nothing!
Staunch Republicans don’t care what Trump does or says.
It’s not about him; it’s about holding onto money and power. Like his supporters in Silicon Valley and all the other places where closeted Republicans stay, they will tolerate Trump for that and for that reason alone. It’s all about the money, the resources, and no restrictions on what they want to do; they know the man’s crazy.
Mainstream media shows you Trump’s most ignorant followers, mostly uneducated White folks. But, also the “buffoonery” Black folks. Those Trump educated supporters laugh and are disgusted by his so-called base. And, the Evangelicals, let’s not even go into their motives. Those are the ones reporters get a kick out of showing us. The guys and gals who want Trump to win want a tough bully.
I listen to the interviews and ads, “Trump improved the economy.” Really? “He lowered the price of insulin and other prescription drugs. ” And, why did I watch people walk away from picking up their medications because they couldn’t afford them. I told one lady she could get insulin cheaper at the vet pharmacy.
The Angry White Men
Racism is the main issue in this election and overall across America, pure and simple.
Trump makes his base feel good, especially the White boy’s when they see their idol doing what they’d like to do. They grab and shake the front of their pants. Yea! “You tell him, Trump.” We’ll be back in the stirrups and ride again. Back to White rule, yeah. We all know what this nonsense is about. Trump is their warrior and their savior.
Sure, Biden is an old white guy, but he still represents the remnants of Obama’s reign. This crowd saw a Black man in the White House for eight years as a slap in the face and, it is never going to sit right with them if Biden Wins. Never!
The controversy over the question Trump had a hard time explaining if he supported White Supremacy. I listened to his responses, and he later tried to clean it up. Often, I watch this man stumble over several topics. He’s not too bright, actually. I hope that when he gets out of the Oval Office, he goes home and gets on some Alzheimer’s Medication if he’s not already on some.
Enough is Enough.
Personally, I won’t watch the third presidential face-to-face debate which is still scheduled to take place as planned on October 22. I’ve already cast my vote and I just want all of this to be over. I hope they’ll bring Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC’s Today morning show, and a Mom of 2 little kids repeatedly showed us how to make sure the rules are enforced and let kids know when its time to stop making noise and go take a nap.
Notes: Who raised these men? Go read about Trump’s heritage. You might just be surprised. Who is Biden? And what are his roots?
